Default Tranny cooling system

Hey all,
Has anyone had any trouble with the transmission overheating in the 3.7 auto.
Its only happened once but i think once to many. Has anyone installed a cooler kit to the transmission. Without a bullbar.
If so any details would be great.
I see some at supercheap for around $190

There's some good info on this subject in the KJ section, they used the same/similar tranny which has a small fluid capacity so suffers the same overheat issues.

I've had the light come on once when rally driving on a beach (my fault) and another time just doing slow climbs on a track (that was odd).

Apparently the secret is increasing fluid capacity as well as extracting heat which a cooler effectively does both. There's also an alloy sump pan available for this tranny to achieve both of the above. Also has a temp sensor position to allow for monitoring which is ideal for regular or long distance towing.

Yea I had mine overheat a couple of times over the years. Dash temp would be on 1/2 way but tranny light would still come on.

In the end I fitted an Auxillary cooler and run it inline with the main radiator one. Have had it almost a year now and it hasn't overheated again yet. *touch wood*

Just a quick note on the alloy deep pans, if they hold an extra say 1.8 litres DON'T add an extra 1.8 litres! You need to allow for the expansion of the fluid (which is more then you think). I would start with 1.5 litres or so.
