Wooders is right, I am in Arizona.

I am putting together jeep parts (lift kit, transfer case, etc) while in the US so that when I move back to OZ I will be able to purchase a 3-4 year old TJ and then build it relatively quickly.

The tera low and an AA fixed yoke would run me about US$1,250 while the Altas 3.8:1 would cost about US$1,750 (the current price from Jason at groupbuy). However, I think I could install the tera low and the fixed yoke myself. The atlas on the other hand would require me to get assistance (which might mean several more $$$$$).

Get the Atlas mate. Don't forget it's also shorter which is nice for the driveline.
Also I think in some cases the 4.0:1 of the atlas is a bit too low - and I think the 3.8 would be just a bit better - esp when you need a bit more wheel speed.
Then get a decent set of diffs.
IE the things that as SERIOUSLY expensive & heavy to get out here.
As for the lift - I hope you're getting long arms?

If I waas in the US I would be looking at the dana300.
Nearly as strong as the atlas, but not as expensive.
Heaps stronger than the np231, but more expensive.

It is sort of the middle ground between the two.
One advantage you get is the twinsticks

The costs do add up though, and it would be better if you could fabricate your own flip kit for it as the stock dana 300 has the driveshaft outputs on the wrong side for us tj owners.

You have to remember with the atkas and dana300 you don't need to buy an SYE kit anymore so you save US$220 or so there alone.

dana 300 - US$150 second hand
4:1 kit - US$700 or so
flip kit - US$550

You can also upgade the output shafts to 32 spline versions or similar.

If you have the money go the atlas - you will never need another t-case
If you don't quite have the money, but can pay in stages, go the dana300. will end up close to the atlas
If you don't have the money - or are going to stick to 33's, 35's or similar then get the 4:1 terlow.

my .02 worth anyways...

ZZZZ,

Thanks for your 2c.

Money is most definately a concern as the move back to OZ will be expensive. So far I have not purchased anything but should be ordering the teraflex 4" long arm kit at the end of the month. I would like to go with 35's but possible 33X10.5 to start with(save a bit by not needing to buy flares, body and MM lift, and a good rear bumber and tyre carrier right off the bat).

One of the fellas I wheel with has the tera low kit in this TJ and has not had any problems and he runs 37's but he also drives in a very controlled manner.

I will do a bit of checking on the dana 300.

Cheers

One question....
Is this going to be a RHD or LHD?
If you get RHD, then one wild suggestion I have is consider replacing both axles, front with a driver side pumpkin, then get a D300 (unflipped).
Yes it will take a bit of fab work to get it working, but you'll save some by getting the D300 and save some more by not having to flip it.....
As I said just a wild thought...

Wooders, I think new axles and the fab work required to fit them is going way beyond my budget.

CJer, I like your thinking. Got any fabrication experience?
