Yeah definitely use rockauto. Great service and parts. I found similar though, my Renault Clio 172 is easy to find bits and pieces for, but the xj isn't say on eBay or something... Rockauto have everything though.
Also the Falcon is super reliable. My mum uses my BA now and it's great for her commute every day. Eats KMs up like nothing and parts are everywhere.

rock auto is fantastic.
The harvy bay mob I rang for quotes 4 different times, in my first year of xj ownership, pricing was optimistic to say the least. Like does that come with jousting sticks? fall off the chair laughing, optimistic.
Never bought a thing from them.

Basically perfect. After I've been driving for about 20 or 30 mins, sometimes more, I get this hesitation that starts minor and gradually gets really bad - like someone was hitting you from behind. There is a corresponding little drop in RPM in each instant it does it and you can hear an audible change in tone from the fuel pump - I have no interior so it's loud as inside, I hear everything.. I'm not sure if it's actually heat soak, because I can stop the car and start it again and it never really has a misfire as such, just every few seconds it does this sudden hard bog down and recover - sometimes it does it repeatedly 3 or 4 times, almost feels like it wants to stall out. Injectors and fuel pump are all original, it started out of the blue a few months back. When I leave the car sit overnight, the next day it's back to normal and the cycle starts again.
Spark plugs, leads, map sensor, TPS, IAC, o2 sensor, water pump, thermostat, air filter - all replaced and new within the last 12-24 months.

1/ When did it start playing up?
was it after you did work/replaced parts?
2/ Have you installed a new dist cap?

I replaced all those parts roughly 2 years ago, but I've put very little kms on it these last couple of years - maybe 10k at most. I swapped all those parts, and it was driving fine for a good year afterwards before it started playing up. It started out not so bad, I would be driving for an hour or an hour and a half, and then just as I was making my way home it would do this little blip every 5+ seconds, not really bad. It's just got progressively worse now.
I haven't replaced the dist cap, but I have had it off 2 years ago when I replaced the leads and such and it looked pretty good inside. It was replaced maybe 6 years ago I think, but it's only done maybe 25k kms since then. Rough numbers sorry, it's been a rollercoaster ride of life for us in recent years so doing my best to remember things. Think I should take another look and see how it's fairing? Anything I should be looking for specifically?

Look for corrosion.... It's sat so it could be all crappy in there. Give it a clean with contact cleaner and then apply dielectric grease. Worth doing regardless. Do this with wires too... And if the dizzy button is a bit sad give it slight sand with a 400grit paper or similar just to remove carbon or potential crud off it...
