Head over to www.g503.com, there's a wealth of info on old jeeps (mainly old army stuff) but also early CJs, etc.

The G503 guys will lynch you for changing anything from stock ... they believe in using original 1940's engine oil and water in radiator if they could find it

I recommend WillysTech on yahoo groups , much more open minded and they have an archive section you can search through as this mod has been done to a lot of old Willys F and L heads

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Javajeep especially aye... I've seen your SU setup; very nice! I tried to set up a 1 1/4" SU, but I've changed my mind, since the Weber is easier and it'll probably be better for a newbie mechanic like me! I'll see if I can get a hold of some pics of the manifold I'm going to use.

" I tried to set up a 1 1/4" SU "

Way too small , you cant overcarb an engine with an SU as its variable venturi

I went for the 1 3/4" but if I did it again I'd probably do twin 1 3/4" SUs or a single 2"

Be careful with the Weber , if you're buying a new kit you won't have problems but if you're using a second hand unit try and find one off an engine of similar size . I tried using a sidedraft Weber off a Fiat 1100 and it was way too small and had fixed choke sizes so I went to the SU , the sidedraft Weber looks VERY cool on an old Willys engine and you wont have to worry about carb to bonnet clearance

That's pretty much the kit I'm going to use, but the manifold adapter and carby will be sourced locally.

Lachlan

What model Willys and engine is it (L head or F head) ?

As it's a downdraft Weber you may have an issue with a low hood CJ2a or CJ3a with that carb if you are running an F head in a low hood Willys.

It can be fixed with a mild body lift (1 or 2 inches) if it becomes a problem
