Dual battery locations (under rear seat?)

While I understand a number of ppl are using portable battery boxes in the rear seat foot wells, I was wondering what sort of space there is under the rear seat bases? I havent found if they flip up/forward yet, if they do, could someone please tell me how? I have a small 40ah AGM in my X-Trail spare wheel centre and was considering putting two in the Jeep, one under each rear seat.

if you get a slim line battery you can fit it under your draws

So long as you never attempt to lay the back rests forward then you might be able to get some smaller batteries under there. Look for the small pull loop on the sides near the wheel wells, when you pull these the back rests are unlocked and the bottom cushion will lower as you fold the seat forward. I think the rear is probably a better spot or possibly in some wasted space under the vehicle.

Ah-ha! This explains why they are hinged at the front but dont flip up and forward, they go down at the back! I knew about pulling the loop to fold the rear seat backs forward, but every other car I've had or driven, the seat bases flip up and forward against the back of the front seats. Well, except the Volvo XC70 cause it has a better system and built in child booster seats...freakin awesome design.

Also trying to work out how to remove the rear seat head rests. Pushing the button they slide up and down but won't come out (grrr...). I usually have my wagons setup as a two seater with large cargo area, so nearly always have the rear seats down with head rests removed, but occasionally I need to give a 3rd person a lift, so need the narrow seat back to come back up some times.

Wow, that is a serious mod to completely rip out the floor!
But I guess if you're putting drawers in, why not.
But I would then need a fridge lift, as I wouldnt be able to see in my fridge if I put drawers in and put the fridge on top! I have to slide down the seat to get out now and I think I only have a 2in lift. This car is high for me already!

The headrest do come off, it’s been a while since I’ve removed them so not sure if you need to press somewhere with a tool or if it just takes extra pressure on the button.

I’ve taken the back seat out, which is incredibly heavy and quite difficult for one person. This frees up lots of space but sadly it’s not possible to keep only the narrow section of seat without some exceptional reengineering. I have wondered if an aftermarket seat could be legally installed. If you don’t need it I feel that the rear seat is definitely worth removing, especially when going on an extended trip.
