Double check and triple check your using high tensile rated bolts, there's a driver that nearly lost his foot after a snatching incident at Howes Valley a while ago.

those cast hooks can be found at wreckers off old toyotas etc for about $5 then go find your grade 5 or 8 high tensile bolts. Some people say to get 8's and others say 5's coz they will give a little before they break either will do.As far as where they go the bolts on your bumper , just remove one for thread sizing for your new bolts and fit two hooks there.

we sell the hooks that fit (there ae some with a different hole spacing) and throw in a pair of genuine torx bolts of suitable tensile (out of the bottom sway par point in your TJ when we fit disco's).

hooks rock if your a cantidate for gettign stuck in bog holes, every second counts.

the rear end has a factory point that can be upgraded by putting on a tow point from a 97/7 TJ witha bit of a filing to accomadate the full size shackle. a tow bar is good but also lowers your depart angle.

OK...bought my hook today. Got it from ARB for $15 with bolts. Cheerin. OK

So i am going to mount it on the front. There is already a dodgy factory type hook/loop on there. Take that off and put the new one in its place? Is that a good call. One problem though...the hook sticks out from the frobnt of the bar which i think is highly illegal in NSW and probably everywhere else. So what else or where else can i put it?

Drilling into the chassis...is there any great problems with doing that? Or any bad points to do it?

Advice would be tops

It's not highly illegal.
Infact it's a rounded purtusion(sp?) so is infact not illegal.....
Doubt you'll have any issues if you just mount it up.

That dodgy loop thing is the place to put your hook . The bolts that came with your hook ,in the past have been questionable as to their tensile strength so would be a good idea to either get them checked at a proper bolt shop or toss them and get some "known to be" high tensile bolts. It's also not a good idea to drill the chassis and bung your bolts in .... at least the loop thing has welded nuts inside the chassis rails.
happy trails

The nut inside the bar is welded in place - you shouldn't have to worry about it - just undo the bolt....
