Default Overhead Console

Hey Guys, I have a overhead console in my 96 xj and I don't know what it's there for!! Are you able to get a fob that lock or unlocks the doors? Be great if
that was the case. The console just has a little black bulb hanging from it. Nothing else..

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Can a fob be programmed for it? I realise it would have to be infrared, I guess.

That little black bulb was an infrared central door locking system. They usually pack up.
I had an auto electrician bypass it and retro fit an immobilizer/central locking unit. Now i have a couple of fobs and separate keys. It was cheap to do and the new system works great.

My overhead console also has courtesy lights at the front, courtesy lights in the middle and a computer built in that has a compass and temperature readout.

Cheers,

I don't have one, owning a sport.

But I do have the plastic bump just above the rear vision mirror with the little black upside down dome.

And Yes, I am always getting questioned about whether there is a secret camera in there which my reply is "yes".

I dont have the flap things. Wasn't one for sunglasses? My overhead console is in two pieces as i fitted a sunroof years ago. Been great, never leaked. It was an aftermarket one designed for the ribbed roof XJ.

Cheers,

The overhead console does a couple of things, it contains the remote receiver for the central locking, plus it has a sunglass holder, a garage door opener compartment, extra lights and a compass/temperature display....

I modified mine so the front lights also operated with the doors and converted it to LED...
