Default JK Engine Starting Problems

Does anyone have problems with their JK periodically not starting? Mine is a 2009 petrol auto that won't start about once every 3 days. I put the key in, turn it and the dash lights up, but when I turn the key the last bit to start the engine, nothing happens - no noises, just nothing. I take the key out, wait 5 seconds, put it back in and it starts fine. I have discussed this with Jeep who seem to think it is a problem with the key reader. It started off not starting once a year, then once every 6 months, then every month, every week and now it is several times a week. Is anyone having or had a similar problem?

Intermittent clutch switch, or just not quite holding the clutch pedal in far enough? Or do you have an auto? In which case it could be the sensor for the Park/Neutral?

Transponder batteries have been know to cause this sort of issue and the fact that its getting more frequent may also be a sign of a battery on the way out.

Could be something else of course.... but its worth considering and apparently not difficult to replace so........

I would suggest you bridge the clutch switch (if its manual???). If its no better, move onto the more complicated items like imobilizer and starter relay.

I wouldn't have thought the battery would cause it. That should just be for the door un/lock transmitter. My bike has the same sort of security transponder in the key, but it has no batteries at all for the keys.
