Anyone have an opinion on these? I can get the VRS and head bolts for a decent price with freight (funnily enough) from RA.

Its only a brand name AG.
Felpro come in different types.
The better ones (MLS) are multi layer stainless steel. These are the standard for diesel engines.
Its hard to find poor quality gaskets unless you are getting them out of China.
There is a gasket shop in England that has various gaskets on ebay
shirley9293 their ebay store is " the gasket shop" dont know if they have what you are after though.
They are good. I have purchased from them. They are cheap & quick delivery.

Changing bolts is a good Idea as you only get one recycle and there cheap anyway, I don't have any.
I have all sorts of head gaskets as I was looking at thickness for compression ratio, what thickness are you after even Victor's.

I have no idea about the thickness. I just want a decent quality VRS kit and because RA are not wacking shitload of freight on top of the gasket set price I thought why not. As for head bolts its normal practice to renew them as well these days. I doubt there would be a mech around now that wouldn't replace the bolts as well when doing a head gasket.

When did replacing the head bolts become common practice or is it just a XJ thing........

Not really sure but every mech I know replaces them on EF Fords. I have been told the bolts stretch by various mechs. Its only costing me an extra $30-40 to replace them.
