Okky dokey, spoke with Specialised vehicles on this.

For around about $6k they can do a GVM on a CRD Wrangler which will get 300-400kg extra payload, doing springs, coils, and air bags. Axles are fine, brakes are fine.

Takes about 4 days

$2.2k goes straight to the RTA engineers....

I suppose that's pretty reasonable.....except the eingineers

What's the difference between springs and coils?
or did you mean shocks and coils?

400kg is a decent increase and i'd say about right for a JK with these parts added

That's a big price for $1-1.5k of parts and a few hours fitting labor though
I'd be inclined to install myself and pocket the $5k in case of ever being fined

Sounds very expensive. What brands are the parts? For $3800 you would be wanting pretty much top of the range stuff.

Are the engineers directly employed by the rta or are they just approved/certified by the rta? It does sound pretty expensive too.

Is the payload different for different years and models?

Redbook lists the 2008 JKU CRD manual as;
Kerb weight: 1977kg
GVM: 2585kg
Payload: 608kg

I suspect the "kerb" weight listed on redbook for the 2008 models is actually the tare weight. For 2015 model (automatic) the tare weight is 1,985 kg (very similar). Tare is sometimes called "dry weight" and does not include fluids (e.g. no coolant, no diesel).
The kerb weight for 2015 automatic CRD is listed as 2,173 kg (the same number is on jeep australia website). From what I read, "kerb" weight should measure the vehicle with all the required fluids (oil, coolant etc.) ready to drive away. Given the GVM for 2015 CRD is 2,585 kg, then that leaves only 412 kg (!!!) for passengers AND their luggage AND any body armour and accessories (I'd want a bullbar and sliders). For a diesel, that is just so poor. If it was at least 550+ I'd be ok, as I don't need to go very heavy, but with 2 adults, 2 children that is only a weekender kind of payload if I want to stay legal. What a shame.
Somebody prove me wrong pleeease; show me that a 2+ tonne diesel wrangler can take more than 412 kg...
