Default Front mud flaps?

My wife drove my jeep down to the shops today and was pulled over by the cops and given a warning for no mud flaps which was only a matter of time but amongst his ramblings about being too high blaa blaa ba he said that I need to fit mud flaps to the rear and the front! WTF! He did however say that it's a bit of a grey area with the whole front flap thing but he also said that if my jeep was seen without them he would book me! On a positive note he did like my rig and he said he didn't care about the size of my tires as long as they where covered! That and I'm sure a good looking female driver probley helped my case a little? does anyone else have front flaps? I don't even know how the hell I would mount them without my tires eating them? Under the floor maybe? Ideas?

JKs didnt come from factory with front flaps however they are available but look well out of place on the wrangler , my stock ones got ripped of first trip out lol after the lift and new rear Atlas bar I thought it best to fit some new rear flaps so I got some of the TeraFlex Fuggly Flaps which are removable for offroad use , Awesome bit of kit .so legally there is no need for fronts but the rears they can fine you for .

Mine came with genuine front mud flaps, all the pre-update sports I've had also had them and there is a ruling on the maximum height from the ground regarding mud flaps, I've heard of people being booked due to their mud flaps being too high from the ground, even if it is a grey area your suspension and tyres will result in defects if they want to get you....

I purchased a set of front plastic things that I guess you could call mud flaps on ebay. They needed a bit cut out to make them fit the shape of the existing moldings. they are screwed to the plastic flairs & plastic inner, about 10 self tapping screws on each side. They keep the mud splash off the side of the jeep. At the moment my back flaps are missing. I'm going to make up a pair that are close to the wheels one day.

There is no law regarding front mudflaps. Rear mudguard or mudflaps must cover the full width of the tyre and go down to 230mm for passenger cars or 300 mm for off road vehicles.

Fronts must be inside the guards but come under a different ruling (which also coverrs the rears bit most cops are not aware of) in that the bottom of the guard or muflap must be at or less than 20 degrees relevant to the flat road surface from the base of where the tyre touches the road.

Interestingly very few vehicles meet that last requirement.

Sent from a tiny keyboard with fat fingers, apologies for my spelling. .
