Default Jeep JK 2012 No Coolant In Reservoir

Gidday,

I have a SWB Jeep JK 2012, the coolant Reservoir is always empty - but the level in the radiator does not change - the vehicle is not overheating or is there water in the oil - I cannot find any leaks in the system or holes in the reservoir container - has anyone else had this problem - any help would be appreciated

Interesting and weird!

Am assuming you keep filling it up in the reservoir and the water disappears.
I was initially wondering if the cap is jammed shut, so it can't lift off the seat to let any into the reservoir when the system heats up. But then, how would it be able to suck the coolant from the reservoir into the system in the first place.

If you had a head gasket problem I'd expect other symptoms too.

Maybe this bump will get a few more views.

I noticed a similar situation in my 2013 4dr earlier this year. Nothing in the reservoir, I opened the cap and couldn't see any fluid at the top of the radiator (cue minor anxiety moment).

It has been a particularly hot summer this year for my area, and I figured that had something to do with the levels changing. I topped up the reservoir with premixed coolant that matches the existing content and evidently overfilled the reservoir, as I have had intermittent overflow drips showing up on the front axle since March.

No leaks in my cooling system either.

Yep pretty much mate & yep bloody weird, I checked the top of my front diff to see if I could se any residue & or sign of a leak, checked my clamps on the inlet & outlet hoses + checked for any signs of a leak around the water pump - still nothing mmmmm......

I think next option is to get the system pressure tested next time I am home

Gidday NT Rubicon

It,s bloody interesting, as the temp gauge is normal, been a really hot summer down here in Perth to no signs of over heating, as I mentioned to ajftj next time I am home I am going to get the system pressure tested as I may be missing something, might be just a simple fix as changing the radiator cap (here's hoping lol) or I may have a leak somewhere that I cannot see, or maybe a guts full of air mmmmm.......

I am back home in a few weeks so I will post up what I find when I get the system tested

Just make sure you don't have a pin hole leak under pressure. If it is losing coolant under pressure it may be spraying onto your engine which will cause it to evaporate therefor leaving no trace.

I haven't had this issue on my Jeep but one of my Falcons was doing this. It was spraying on the manifold so there was never any fluid dripping anywhere but the reservoir was empty but the radiator was full.
