Where you are saying near the air box is where the upper turbo hose goes. Have a real good look as it may have blown something in the turbo and the hose

Thoughts?
just had my high pressure power steering hose bust, couldn't steer at all, jeep assist to the rescue and towed away(very sad day hehe), and warranty fix at the dealership, keep an eye out for it if it is a common problem, i'm only on 18000kms, and 1 year old, just a heads up

Agree with some of the other guys, sounds like you've split the turbo hose (not loose, split), if you take off your turbo pipes you will see that they are coated on the inside with a thick film of oil, nasty stuff. The split only needs to be small, so small you might not even see it, but it will bleed boost all the same and cause problems. This oil is due to the EGR dumping this rubbish oil residue in just after your intake box. The turbo pipes are rubbish and only two ply and my understanding is they are not oil resistant!! Hence why many of us have gone the after market stainless mandrel bent pipes with high end silicon (5ply) fittings. Without boost it will feel exactly the way you have described. The boost sensors will pick up the problem and limit all normal operation to limit any further damage. The other problem is that unless you fit something like a Pro-Vent filter all this oil residue blocks up sensors and is not very friendly to variable geo turbos. Suggest maybe taking off the turbo hose, get yourself some of that silicon rescue tape, clean the hose and use the silicon tape on the entire length, this stuff is great and should be in everyones recovery kit. Normal tape will not do, but this stuff is fantastic, heat rated, pressure rated etc. If you get your power back then you know whats going on. But I wouldn't suggest driving around like this, this is a temporary fix only, not a daily driver fix.

To the high pressure steering hose question, yep the standard hose is rubbish as well and its only a matter of time, did mine climbing a range up in Exmouth WA, long way home back to the caravan park driving a Jeep with no power steering, pumped the tyres up as high as possible and wrestled it back, never again !!! Jeep assist helped and Jeep replaced the hose and its now my spare, went straight out and got a custom one made, simple fittings, none of this complicated rubbish of twists and turns, flanges, extension bolts etc. I asked the guy who made my custom hose what he thought of the standard one, I can't type the words he used but they were colourful, ha ha.

So the general recommendation is, if you blow a hose don't replace it with a factory item, go out and get something better made, simple, because the standard one didn't cut it and will only cause you grief again. And have you seen the length of the radiator pipes, carry spares of them because there ain't no way your gonna get them up north !!

Cheers

So I get up this morning to go and drop it at the stealership. As Murphey would have it the light doesn't illuminate after start, and it is driving normally again (ie full engine power available once more). This leads me to believe that it is not a hose, but possibly a sensor.

Anyway it is in the hands of the "specialists" (and I use that term loosely) at Jeep. They have a few days to play with it and work out wtf wrong.

Thanks all for your input.

P.S. The oil like substance on the airbox is actually on the outside at the front (near the power steering reservoir. The reservoir is not more than a few mm off the max indication. So who knows?!

Hi, interested to know the result. I too have an 07 crd and the same happened this week. I've just got back from Googs Track (far west SA). If I turn off the ignition and restart the car the issue usually goes away. Need to scan for the error code to oz. any assistance is appreciated. Roger

Where are you? Maybe there is someone nearby who has a device that can read the codes for you, if you want to do that before you take it in.
