Default Does the JK CRD have a "limp home" mode?

My 2007 JK has been fun, but it is very quickly edging its way to disposal...

My latest problem is that the "Malfunction Indicator Light" (the little engine shaped one above the odometer) illuminates intermittently after start. It is not flashing, so according to the manual it is not a "serious condition" requiring immediate service, although I am taking it in on Monday.

When driving along, the JK has absolutely no power. It is like driving an old normally aspirated diesel form the 1970s, but worse! Has it entered a "limp home" mode? I can find no reference to it in the manual...

Thoughts?

Cheers!

Sounds like it. There is nothing to indicate limp mode - no limp mode light. If you have an OBDII scanner you can pull the codes and have a look.

THe problem you describe is very similiar to one I had when my egr pipe broke at the exhaust manifold flange.

Sure you haven't done a turbo hose?
Mine lost all power like you said but I heard the pop when the top hose blew. On the drives side near the front. Have a look as it sounds like that

The belt came off my mates turbo diesel triton and lost all power like that. Probably turbo related im guessing.

Thanks all. I will have a look in the morning. No popping noise though. I has been intermittently giving me the problem light on startup for the last week or so.

Coincidentally it is right around the time I have been getting quotes to replace it... Maybe it has feelings!?

Further to last :

Have had a look and there are no loose hoses/pipes in the engine bay. However there is an oily substance over the forward part of the air box and pooling in the plastic ribbing on the air box lid. I suspect it may be the power steering fluid, but the power steering reservoir is no oilier than they always are, and the level is no more than about 7mm below max...

Thoughts?
