Whilst an AT might run a quieter - regular rotations of the Muds will help lessen the noise a little.
Also I've had muds that perform BETTER than some AT's on road.
Lastly an AT might last longer on road - but 10mm of tread depth means zip when the side wall has been ripped through.
MT all the time is the only way to go.

Got AT's, 6 mths ago... next time it will be MT.

Don't like my mates car on MT walking up stuff that I need gas up.

I went from MTZs to an all terrain mainly because of a lot of bitumen driving. The MTZs were not too bad noise wise until they got under 1/2 tread. Then really loud, but did have them for 3 years.
