check the fuel filler cap. i had issues with the lock on the fuel cap when i got my jeep. then the light came on after fighting with the cap. i then got the knack of opening the lock and bingo the light went off.

Default Tail light does not work

We have been working on this problem for five hours (yes, we're stupid)...All lights on this 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee work except the left tail light...we have tried new bulbs, new wiring...even eliminated the "coupler" accessable via the driver side back access panel....by eliminating the two part plug we re-wired directly as it appeared a pin was absent from one end of the coupler....it is impossible for us to get the side marker light and the driver's side tail light to work...

and help is sincerely appreciated.

You are in the TJ Wrangler section. You will have better luck asking in the Grand Cherokee section.

...or just check the ground wire and make sure it is truly grounded to bare metal....it is always the first thing I check (and it is usually the issue).

Not sure if this is an "annoying common repair" or bloody dangerous. Sounds like the hose to your evap cannister is loose . If you remove the rubber guard above your back driver's side wheel you'll see 2 canister joined together. Check that the hose leading to the canniter has not popped off. Maybe also pull out the cannister and check it. If is leaking from the top of your fuel tank you should be able to see it after taking out the rubber guard.

Here's a link for you.
