I reckon there is no need to get hung up on whether it's a sport or limited tbh...

I don't believe the extra $$ for a new limited are reflected in the second hand prices 15 years later. Horses for courses but many seem to prefer a Sport anyway.

I know i was looking for a Sport but if i nice Limited came up i would have checked it out.

The way i see it is make a check list of what you want and go from there, remembering, again - this is a 15 yo Jeep and most people round here do at least some level of modification pretty quickly.

For the record - plastic moulds, arches and bumpers are more practical off road - less things to pinstripe on tight tracks!

It's not a deal breaker for me, I don't mind a sport and would probably put leather seats in anyway and maybe even the EVIC. In my mind it does impact price, as there is a premium on the Limited in my mind (I wouldn't have offered 5k for a sport).

Aside from the price issue, the only other concern would be that it wasn't disclosed (assuming the prior owner even knew), as it becomes a trust issue and raises questions around what else has been hidden.

All will be revealed tomorrow...

Yep I wouldn't have offered 5k for a sport or Limited with 200k on the clock and sketchy service history. Also Are the front seats electric 6 way adjustable? Another std Limited feature, along with cruise and ABS. Looking forward to tomorrow.

No they are not electric.. Although if I had a LTD with electric seats I'd be swapping them onto a manual rail as the motors are notorious for failure.

Re the price, the fact is they are higher in WA than anywhere else, put simply there are less for sale, people are asking higher prices and they are moving fast. If I was to buy interstate I'd pay a grand or so less, but not willing to do that. Unfortunately that's the market and I just need to roll with it and get the best deal I can.

Appreciate the critical feedback btw, helps ensure no surprises!

No probs, Just trying to help you Identify what you are actually purchasing. The seller will probably just be going by the badges in saying it's a Limited and pricing it accordingly in a tough market for buyers. I'm 100% confident that it's a sport not having the electric seats. I chose the Limited specifically for all the bells 14 years ago and I needed the electric seats for more adjustability as I'm 6'4". I envy all you guys now buying XJ's for so little as I paid $29k for mine! I did buy a 94 Limited last year for $750 though that had a reco rear diff that I need for mine.
Also If you were after the 8.25 rear, my understanding is that they were mainly put into the 97 pre update Classics with no LSD as they were clearing stock for the update.

Definitely hard to pic a model just on features...

My 99 Sport has Cruise, overhead console, speaker pods in the rear (1 piece molded with roof liner not seperate like some) and electric everything (like all Jeeps in Aus!) bar the seats with cloth upholstery. No ABS either.

My Mate bought a 98 Sport after me and has no cruise, different speaker pods (detached from roof lining) and i reckon possibly a different console...

His is only 130ish K but he paid over 5grand from Tas and had to meet the seller in Melbourne. Took a day off work, flew over and drove back - if it were me i would have happily paid $1k more than that (works out similar when you factor in lost wages and travel expenses) not to have the hassle of interstate purchase then rego transfer etc...

I reckon $5k for a well spec'd XJ is great buying if it's in good mechanical condition. Dealer logbooks on a 15yo DD wouldn't bother me, if the owner has service/parts receipts etc... it's probably been better maintained than a dealership devotee vehicle would anyway!

Interestingly - we have both had to do water pumps within a few weeks of each other just as Spring ended and Summer began. I would factor in a cooling system overhaul to any XJ purchase if stuff hasn't already been recently replaced...
