Below Is direct from the JK service manual. Hope this helps

I think our front diff is the 35 were the manual here says 30, this is from a US manual so maybe its different there.

AXLE LUBRICATION

NOTE: DiamlerChrysler recommends using Mopar® lubricants or lubricants of equal quality.

FRONT AXLE

186 FBI (Model 30) - Mopar® Gear Lubricant 80W-90
216 FBI (Model 44) - Mopar® Gear Lubricant 80W-90

REAR AXLE

198 RBI (Model 35) - Mopar® Gear Lubricant 80W-90 (Trailer Towing Mopar® Synthetic Gear Lubricant 75W-140)
226 RBI (Model 44) - Mopar® Gear Lubricant 80W-90 (Trailer Towing Mopar® Synthetic Gear Lubricant 75W-140)

NOTE: Trac-lok® equipped axles require 0.1 L (3.4 ounces) of Limited Slip Additive in the lubricant.


FRONT AXLE ± .03 L (1 oz.)

186 FBI (Model 30) 1.0 L (2.1 pts.)

216 RBI (Model 44) 1.3 L (2.7 pts.)

REAR AXLE ± .03 L (1 oz.)

198 RBI (Model 35) 1.83 L (3.8 pts.)

226 RBI (Model 44) 2.25 L (4.75 pts

Wanglertj, I have the same written in my owners manual, page 221

ahhh, see theres my problem. My manual only goes to page 200. Maybe they whacked a few pages in in the later models. Thanks anyway. you guys have answered my quesstion and i didnt think i was going mad

Im using a Penrite Mineral oil "Limsip 85W-140" as was filled by a Diff shop i went to last year. Its back there now as im getting them to fit another locker for me But they have just found that the ring gear is stuffed! it has a slivered piece of metal that has sheered off the size of a 1 cent piece.
This is the Front Dana 30.
Im not sure if its just a bad set of aftermarket Superior Gears or i overloaded the Diff or its the OIL?

Nowhere do i see Mineral oil recommended and now im thinking should i go with Penrite SIN GEAR 75 (75w-90) or SIN GEAR 80 (80w-140) both Fully Synthetic Oils

The Diff shop are putting in Limsip 85w-140 again saying its all they use and its better than Synthetic! I asked about putting in Limsip 90 in the Front only but again they say 85w-140 is the only one i should be using in both.

Is anyone using Mineral Oil in their Diffs???

Are you only using it in the Rear? do you still have 80w-90 in the Front?
