Update
It still stops after a few minutes if in Park but hasn't stopped when driving for 20 minutes.
Ive only done a few small trips but what is it ???

also runs rough when you restart.

Found the clunk, rear gearbox mount.

If you can maintain the motor using the pedal, that probably means the IAC is dirty or malfunctioning, as it is the primary device that controls idle

Whats involved with replacement of the PCM ECU on a 2001 XJ
What year models will work and what are the look outs to replacing the unit

I would only consider a '98 or later, preferably the same part num that is on the PCM, which will be 56041 and 3 big numbers..you can see it without removing the plastic case

As I understand it, the later models immoboliser works by your ignition switch sending a matching VIN code to the PCM, so that means either the PCM must have the VIN reflashed, or you need the Ignition switch and key from the seller ( I see they are often sold this way in Oz ebay, gumtree etc)

seek clarification on the this, I am not 100% sure

this means your ignition key will no longer match door keys

I’ll do a more detailed examination but wiggling all connections doesn’t cause a issue.
