Default Lokka

Hi guys, been away for a bit.

My boy is thinking of installing a front Lokka in the D30. I watched a Utube video and all the driving is in a straight line, what if you want to turn midway between a 4wd situation? I'm a little wary after a Elocker in my XJ and the auto lockup in my Pajero.

Does anybody have any experience with a Lokka?

Cheers
Bill

I have a ARB air locker in the front of my XJ D30.
Never had a problem, but obviously only use it while I’m off-road.
My compressor and locker activation toggle switches are near the dash in easy reach of the driver.
I believe this is a requirement, as the driver has to be in reach of deactivating a front locker in Australia.
Obviously a safety point too, as a front locker on the road can adversely affect steering.

Cheers,

Thanks Alex, but I was enquiring specifically about the Lokka, the one that is permanently locked (full time) while moving forward in a straight line but disconnects when you turn a corner. Check out the Utube video.

I’d save up for a selectable locker. I like to go 4Hi in slippy conditions and a lunchbox style locker not going to end well. I started off with an airlocker in the rear (which in fact was a much as I would ever need for my wheeling) and later on picked up a secondhand airlocker for my front diff. Truth is I hardly ever use it but it feels comforting to have it.

The USA forums mainly seem to think various front lockers are fine, maybe have a read of them

I know its slightly off-question, but why did you not like your XJ E-locker ?

(I had a chance to buy one, but the fella wanted a bit more than I had to spend at the time,,, and it was a different ratio to my rear)

I have a auto locker in the front in the XJ.
It’s been there for about 70,000 klm, had it for years. You need to learn to throttle off , off and on , in those slippery bits, to maintain steering. driving around town there is roughness through the auto locker on tight full lock fast turns so slow the tight turns down.
I use 4wd full time on dirt roads , just got to remember to throttle off for specific steering control,

Auto lockers are illegal in Australia to have if you cant disengage it from the cab.
But I have a a Spartan in the rear of mine anyhow.
And run heavy 140 oil.
Bit noisy in town, and would be very noisy in the front.
