I should have kept that 1 but the tow weight was the problem, hence back to a grand that can tow and go where i want it to go, in comfort with style.
I was just joking about why you did not break anything

The truss install was very straight-forward, I got one from ironman4x4fab from the US and did everything with the axle under the car in a narrow garage. Just take your time welding. Biggest issue was ordering longer bolts for the A-arm.

I remember the report of a guy from down-under that broke a carrier cap attempting to climb a slippery ledge. Lunchbox locker, car slid back under power and *freedom noises*. That's gonna happen with a full-case locker or a lunchbox.

You can also modify the varilok pressure relief valve for more holding pressure.

The R&P is stout, the housing flex is the problem and there are solutions for that.

You didn't break them because you don't know how to calculate the torque

The varilock mod is an interesting one. I know a good engineer here who does heaps of race challenge and winch challenge custom stuff. He found out for me safari shims go well in pajero diffs. He made his own hydraulic lockers (fully variable slip) too so I would be surprised if he hasn't played with a varilock. Got any info on it (I haven't searched yet)?

You have to remove one carrier bearing and the oil feed for the varilok:

Behind the small plate held by two screws there is a hole for the pressure relief for the locker:

On QuadraDrive 2 (on WK's) the pressure is controlled by a solenoid. I have heard of people dimpling the hole with a punch, to make it smaller and increase pressure.

Which hole sorry? I can see a few holes/intends?

I know running no lim slip additive / normal diff oil makes them lock better too. People online say it doesn't wear them out normal driving given how they work unlike a normal plate LSD which would quickly get destroyed without LS oil.

The guy I bought one of mine off was a mechanic who used normal diff oil in them and said they didn't need LS fluid to work properly. I put penrite synthetic LSD oil in and it takes more turns to get them to lock up (and stops chirping in carparks haha). He had the truck years and it had done 240km so I don't think normal oil caused any damage, but its another one of those try it for yourself and accept consequences I suppose

The clutch pack in the varilock does need the synthetic lube to get good life. The hole they talk about is under the leaf valve in the second pic.
The problem I see of not use friction modified diff oil is that you cannot buy parts for them so if the clutches wear out the assy is junked.
