Thanks for that. Im just a bit dirty that FCA have no record of my vehicle having a tow bar..... Very dangerous.

Reklaw

I’m curious about what you did after the towbar was removed. Did you replace it with another from Hayman Reece? Did it cost you more when you include fitting?

I’m currently have a battle with FCA and the dealer because my problem is firstly, I received no recall notice (according to FCA my vehicle doesn’t show it had a towbar fitted), and secondly my sales invoice (which I emailed them) shows zero dollars as the value for my towbar.

I have a theory that vehicles which included “complimentary” towbars didn’t get the recall letter, which I think is ridiculous. Mine clearly has a recalled towbar fitted but FCA have told me I will not get a refund because, they have no record of it and it is valued at zero dollars on my invoice. “Take it up with the dealer when you get it removed” they said.

I’m getting a bit annoyed now, the dealer insists on me booking in the vehicle, which I have done on the 31st of May, for an “urgent” inspection to ascertain if I have a faulty towbar or not. That was the earliest date available and I was squeezed in and this is one of the largest dealers in the country. (Normal warranty bookings are not available till late September!) I have photos that show my number plate but that won’t suffice and I have to leave it for a whole weekday (service Dept not open weekends) just for them to say yes is a dodgy one!

Hope they give me a value that I am happy with otherwise I have to wait till the end of September to have a new Mopar bar fitted. (they are apparently available from the end of June I’m told.

But all of my woes doesn’t change the fact I didn’t receive a recall notice, and I can only assume there are a number of owners out there in the same situation given the reasoning. I find that utterly dangerous and irresponsible.....

Just sayin....

Stay tuned....

If the dealership claim that the towbar has zero value, let them know that we're coming around to collect a few... hundred.

Interesting Hoppy.... I received a recall notice even though I bought and fitted the towbar myself. I assume they have a record of all towbars distributed.
Not sure where that will leave me when I want the replacement.

They would have a record of towbars distributed but FCA only really care about vehicles they are fitted to. The towbars are totally safe if not bolted onto the back of a vehicle right? I was told over the phone from FCA in an earlier conversation that the dealers have been instructed to destroy the removed tow bars. So I guess it all comes down to the dealers just claiming the towbars they received from FCA, to get their money back. Not sure how satisfactory this whole process is as it appears the dealers could just claim all their stock sold or unsold was destroyed.
