Default Driveshaft on the CRD model

So I made the transition to Queensland and I just had a look at a CRD model to replace my petrol V8. All looks good but I saw that the transfer case has the CV type joints while mine has the Y shaped yoke and I wonder if they are exchangeable. Elseweise is there an adaptor available or any custom yoke I can use instead. Not so much about the rear, but the front sice I have a double cardan driveshaft. On the other side I will put my lift kit back so the drifshaft will be too short and I might have to get a Ionger one, unless I can compensate it with a spacer or an adaptor.

Another thing is the transfer case when I switch from 4wd high to 4wd low. I have all in neutral and when I switch then I can hear quite some gear grinding. If the engine is off it is no problem, would be just annoying doing this all the time.

Any tips one of the CRD members can drop?

Thanks
Joerg

PS: my V8 engine which has only 20,000 km on the clock will be for sale once I installed the lift kit and winch and stuff if anyone is interested.

The CRD has CV's both ends of the front shaft, and on the front of the rear shaft. Converting to double-cardin on the front is somewhat common, but in my opinion unnecessary. I've been running a stock shaft on the front with a 2" lift for almost 80,000km. It took a few tries to get it sorted, mostly due to cheap CVs failing. Ultimately, a new Crown Automotive front shaft solved everything.

EDIT: The CRD front shaft is a smidge shorter than the V8, but I believe it still fits. The more common donor is an XJ.

Thanks a lot JeanLuke, my front shaft is an adjustable, so I can shorten or extend if necessary. I have they Y shaped yoke all around end even managed to get a NV242 which I was planning to install on my V8.
It's not that I need it, it's just what I got and I don't want to throw stuff away or need to sell because I can't use it.

But at least good to know that there are options.

I'd be very surprised if the spline count is different, I'd reckon you'd be OK. I bought a DC shaft with new yoke front he US which doesn't have the CRD.

It's normal you can shift on the fly from low to high without grinding with practice but dropping to low usually has some crunching involved.

Thanks Jason. That is what I experienced. From Low to High seem to be ok but the grinding / crunching happens really when I switch from High to low.

I will get the car next Friday. Look forward to it, since the V8 definitely gets to expensive on the lung run. Everything is between 80 to 100km away and I have to fill up the tank every 3 days.
