I've got some bike cleaner solution, it's not harsh on the hands, rubber or plastic parts. Doesn't do magic like the stronger stuff though.

Flushed the cooling system, as I suspected the coolant was very old.

First container:

First container when flushing the radiator with the garden hose, looks muddy:

Junk from the first radiator flush:

Then I proceeded to run a citric acid solution in the cooling system.

More junk out of the radiator:

Junk out of the block:

In total I would say I got at 4 tables spoons of junk only out of the radiator and at least 2 out of the block and heater core.

Later this summer I'll swap the radiator off my old Jeep (as it's made in 2013 vs this one made in 2003) change the oil cooler for good measure and flush the system again.

A lesson to be learned is that coolant does not last forever and distilled water is the best kind of water for mixing in the cooling system.

Spent nearly 2 hours wrestling with the freaking bottom radiator hose, popped it, drained coolant into.a bucket (liquid gold) remembered how much of a pain in the ass the bottom hose is after dicking about with it for a while, then ended up getting my big hands in the tiny space to take the thermostat housing out, grrr.
Some silicone and back in, but fuck me, the new hose took some persuasion, and it seems its slightly longer, it rests on the steering box and the bracket for the fan and looks to have a slight kink in it, bugger it, it'll have to do!
What a shit design, rant over!
Now the hunt for a suitable top hose as I discovered it's been rubbing on the high pressure hose from the power steering pump!

Kits such as these (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/9PC-Hose...l/141491616702) are really useful when dealing with cooling systems.
