Squeeze the black tab against the plug body hard and wiggle the connector apart. The red tab is a lock and as shown it is unlocked.

Hey classic boy. Yeah, was squeezing. Looks like a bit more effort required. Just scared of busting something. Ta mate.

Hi all.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I have been able to get all the problems back to normal for now. It actually did a few other weird things in between like suddenly the drivers window and mirror decided not to work, and when I tried to reset the service interval, the unit decided it didn't need the remote key entry any more.

I am waiting on a repair harness section from the States, and in the meantime, I had a look around the US Cherokee forum. One person there, an auto electrician with a lot of Jeep knowledge, suggested that I remove the battery terminals and join the terminals together, whilst the ignition switch is on, to dump down the capacitors.

I did that and it reset the BCM, etc. All is back to normal. Will be doing the wiring anyway as whoever did it last time did a bit of a butcher job.

Their thoughts are that there are a couple of wires that are not well insulated and a bit of moisture closed the circuit between them and sent a silly bit of data to the BCM.

So, if someone gets similar problems as I have, maybe try removing the battery terminals and see if that helps in the interim.

Cheers.
