Default Budget Lift for TJ

I've only had my TJ 1 day and I'm already glued to the PC looking at mods. I know full lift is better but I think for my immediate needs a budget lift is the way to go. I'm looking at running 31s, probably DICK CEPEK F-C II.

Found this 3 inch lift on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Does anyone do similar over here? Any advice re 2 inch suspension and 1 inch body lift? Good bad or indifferent.

I wouldnt really call it a suspension lift as all you are doing is putting in 2" coil spacers. You arent gaining any extra wheel travel only height.
If this is all you are after and arent really interested in offroading that much then yea its probably ok. But if you want to get extra wheel travel as well as the height then personally i would save your money and buy a proper kit with longer coils and shocks in the first place. May take a little longer to save up but will be worth it in the long run and you will be glad you did.

Thanks Matt, pretty much thought that was the case. I was thinking that to get a set of 31's under me I would go up a cuple of inches cheaply, then save up and do it properly when the stock suspension is starting to get a bit tired.

I don't do much off road, but I am keen to have a bit of a go. At the moment most of my off road is done to get me out mountain biking. My 20yo Soft Top Bundera has done the job fine but alas it is time to move on (can't believe I lasted so long without A/C!).

You can run 31's with stock suspension, then save for springs and shocks.

wheel the car stock and get used to it, you would be impressed how well it does standard, then if need be save up and put a decent lift in it.

Yep...invest in some quick disconnects for the front and run the 31's as is. You don't need a lift to fit 31's on a stock jeep.

Then go out and enjoy yourself. Get to know your 4x4 before you start thinking about mods.

I would go for the spacers if they’re cheap. As for spaces not giving u any extra wheel travel only height, that is correct but 2" bigger springs will not give u any extra wheel travel either, only 2" extra height.
The only thing that will give u extra wheel travel is longer shocks, then your arms will be your limiting factor. I had 10" travel shocks with stock arms, springs and 2" spring spacers, which was more than enough wheel travel.

If u go the 2" lift it will be a good idea to go the 1" body lift aswell because u will more than likely get some driveline vibs. With the 1" body lift u will be able to install a 1" motor mount lift straight in, which will get rid of any vibrations.

Like crazy said disconnecting your sway bar will make a huge difference, but if you are not doing a lot of off road then may be just undo the 2 bolts when ever u go bush for know, when u get tired of doing it u can look at some disconnects.

If u think u are going to do any off roading in the future then I would keep a close eye on that kit on ebay, because lift kits don’t come around to often.
