Default 1995 XJ Cherokee missing

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the world of Jeeps and have just bought a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Classic with 160,000km. It went fine while test driving and ran really well, but it seems to have now developed a problem where you'll be cruising at between 1200 and 1800rpm and it will miss very badly for a while and then go away when you get above the 1800rpm. It doesn't happen all the time, but is becoming more frequent than when I first got it (a day ago).

Is this most likely to be a fuel problem or an electrical problem? I had a similar problem with my ford Falcon it turned out to be a faulty wiring loom. I really don't want to go through it again. If it is a fuel problem, what kind of fuel filter does the Cherokee take?

Thanks for any help.

Tim

Welcome
I assume you bought it privately? It could be a crack in your distrubuter cap? That happened to me with a honda and took ages to find,
good luck

Do you have the check engine light coming on at all? I would check your codes to narrower it down. Check my site on how to do the key off on three times trick to read them.

I have checked the error codes, I think I get a 12 then a 55 does this sound right? It's hard to tell if the first one is a 3 or a 12.

Spark plug leads all look ok with no signs of cracking. Distributer cap looks nice and clean as does the rotor.

Where is the Oxygen sensor located?

Thanks for the help so far
