Agree with all above, the WJ is such a nice place to be, I absolutely love mine.
My mates have Prados, FJ Cruiser and other common rigs, none have the comfort of power of the Grand, sure mine doesn't have traction control of a factory locker, but the V8 sounds much better than a TD belting up a hill.

But buying a car like any major purchase is really a exercise in risk, you lay down your readies because you believe the rewards for owning any said vehicle will easily out shine the various risk of ownership. Those risks are many and include the cost, resale value, cost of servicing, cost of breakdowns, loss due to inconvenience, cost of daily running etc...
And I stand by my view that until FCA demonstrably lifts its game in product reliability, cost to service, treatment of customers amongst other areas then buying a jeep has a greater risk versus reward outcome than other makes in the market.

BTW I notice the original question asker has not apparently come back after only 1 post so it may all be academic discussion anyway.
Sorry to hear you have had such a bad experience with Jeep but respect your right to repeatedly state your negative views.

Cheers

According to your signature, you own a WG. What experience do you have with WK2 ownership?

This is taking it off topic...but what the hell...

I researched the absolute crap out of our latest 4x4 purchase. Spent a gazillion hours on the world's forums. Drove just about every model in the second hand car yards.

Cruisers
Land rovers
Hiluxs
BT50
Navara
Patrol
Discos
Blahblah

The actual driving experience is really really shit boring in any of the above. No sport at all. Mundane as lettuce only salad. F that. So agricutural.

Then one day a workmate let me drive his auto GC...
Well that was it. Where the F have these been all my life

Found a low Km 2004 WG 4.7 and it was a deal. All the GC owners in this thread know how sweet there are inside, so the missus loves it. I mean seriously, the interiors of all the jap stuff in the same price brackets make me even want to hurl

And I was always going to bomb 💣 it out with long arms and stuff anyway.

Keep in mind I never ever get any mechanic touch any of my shit. So that was a massive consideration to help me decide cos of the bad attitude of most mechanics towards Jeeps here.

Never once do I wish I had snything else beside a GC, except maybe an older XJ...cos of the aftermarket scene being insane. Mad mod Aftermarket Grand Cherro scene sucks big ones being a downer.

OP just go and get the GC of your taste. If you don't like it long term...move onto something else

Agreed, GC's are awesome. WJ's are great. Neighbour has a new Amaroc that is nice, but I like my WJ better.

Doug.
We had one of my best mate's Amaroc on the hoist last week, working out how to get more lift out of the front (we have to extend and redrill the bottom Y's of the coil overs) He just had the diff drop kit fitted recently.

I couldn't justify bashing a $45,000 ute around like I do our GC, but he does quite good in it. Their Traction aid works pretty good, better than most I've watched. Rear locker is always dependable on anything, but the front brake actuated torque control actually works responsively on those.
