Default Jeep Sends China-Inspired Concepts To Beijing Auto Show

Jeep renegadeJeep is making a big play for the Chinese crossover market at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show. It has a quartet styling concepts for the Renegade, Cherokee and Wrangler that are inspired by Chinese culture at the show.

Among them is the newest member of the Jeep lineup – the Renegade. Its Zi You Xia concept comes from the Mandarin for "rebel," and it's painted in Warm Chocolate Gray with Dark Anodized Bronze trim, including the 20-inch wheels. The roof, grille surround, and mirror caps are done in a complimentary Dark Charcoal color as an accent.

The interior is a mix of dark brown leather and Anodized Copper trim. This is one swanky compact crossover.

Jeep didn't go into specific detail about the powertrains for any of the concepts. However, that makes sense because they show off more of what the brand can do with its styling than any performance advantages.

Jeep Wrangler Sundancer Design Concept

Based on the Wrangler Rubicon, the Jeep Wrangler Sundancer combines the rugged off-road appeal of the Wrangler with what Jeep designers describe as a touch of sophistication and a sense of fashion.

The Sundancer is painted in a tri-coat Chocolate Brown metallic color with gold accents. The fender flares feature a unique Golden Bronze tone-on-tone ghosted pattern, and the windows also have bronze tinted glass.

The colour coded front and rear bumpers feature Golden Bronze inserts and linear LED lighting. Wheels are 20-inch pale gold billet alloys with gold inserts. A multipiece billet aluminium badge adorns the front guards.

The Sundancer’s interior is equipped with Axis II perforated seat inserts and Berry Baltique Semi-Aniline leather, the same leather used by luxury fashion labels.

The door panels and upper instrument panel are wrapped in premium leather and hand sewn provocateur lace stitching can be found on the outer deck seam, steering wheel and center lid console. The gold color scheme from the exterior continues into the interior, with new ‘Gold Rush’ interior paint on the door handles, steering wheel bezel, grab handle, gear shifter trim ring bezels and sill plates.

Finishing touches to the interior include Romina premium leather trimmed floor mats. Jeep Wranglers in China are fitted with a choice of either the 3.6-litre or 3.0-litre V6 Pentastar petrol engines.

Jeep Cherokee Urbane

The second of two Cherokees to get the China treatment, the Jeep Cherokee Urbane is said to combine the night life of a modern megacity with glamour and elegance.

The Urbane sports a Maximum Steel metallic exterior with Hyper Black accents on the roof rack, door mirror caps, grille collars, front and rear fascia’s, wheel finishing’s, vehicle badging and antenna.

The cabin of the Urbane was designed to embrace the Chinese spirit through the use of colours and patterns. Chinese calligraphy is referenced through the use of bold brush stroke patterns in the decorative door applique accentuating the predominantly Piano Black interior.

The seats are finished in dark red Nappa leather with bright red stitching. The floor mats feature a unique decorative pattern inspired by traditional Chinese windows. In China, the Jeep Cherokee is equipped with the 3.2 litre V6 Pentastar and the 2.4 litre MultiAir petrol engines coupled with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Jeep Cherokee Sageland

The design theme and colour palette for the Jeep Cherokee Sageland was inspired by the historical landmarks and scenery found throughout the Shangri-La Region of China.

The exterior is painted in Ivory tri-coat Pearl with bronze grille collars and front and rear fascia appliqués. The glasshouse, roof rack, door mirror caps and exhaust tips are painted in Satin Bronze chrome. Inside the Sageland, earth-tones dominate with a combination of light colours that combine with the neutral grey Nappa leather seats with red and water blue stitching.

The stitching on the seats is inspired by traditional Chinese knot design, while the pattern on the door appliques is derived from the colour and finish of Chinese ornamental door knobs.
