What are the advantages of running an aftermarket rim if you are just running 285 size tyres?

Legalities being one, technically your not supposed to fit them on a rim that width. Well def on the the early 16" rims its not technically wide enough. Some say they rub but I've had 285s for years now on stock rims with no issues!

NOT TRUE.. most (if not all) 285/70/17's are 100% legal to fit to a 7.5" rim as shown on their websites..
EDIT - as are 285/75/16's..
