Don't get me wrong you shouldn't just crank and drive, thats why I hit start, fit seatbelt etc by then its got the oil up and I reverse down the driveway and away we go by the time I get to the 80km zone, 2km its good to go for a bit more juice.... its really nothing to panic about but no matter a good run once a week is like the apple story................
As a side note, at first the heat is provided by an electric heater coil to warm your tootsies until the coolant gets to temp in these things ........... I know if I was still down in Canberra I would have a heat gun mounted in the thing, plugged into the shed power with a timer to come on early to get the inside nice and toasty...... some mornings down there you would have it running for half an hour before things got warm............. Being an idiot I rode a motorbike all the time, except when it snowed, something you will only do once.

Yup I agree so I think from now on I will start her up and do the usual getting ready like seatbelts and navigation and then just start off smoothly..I do get a mixed drive on to work like 100 zones then 80 and mostly 60 and then a few start stop zone which are really slow drives really not complete stops most of the time but I guess still harmful for diesels on long runs.
That’s interesting it does all that heating to bring the car engine temps up in the morning so really all that 5 - 10 min of starts and running idle is unnecessary for sure..won’t be doing that again tbh unless I really need to. Plus the cold in Perth is really not that cold..we are being wusses haha..I hardly used the seat heating on this car tbh yet alone steering heat which I have to turn off in like a minute cos it’s like a hot plate for our cold season here lol

Coming back to the diesel air intake position issue I wanted to ask say if the flap/plastic gears that control this mechanism is broken, would I have days of ignition cycles without the CEL on dash? Like if they were broken physically, won't I have a constant CEL everyday and it would never be able to reset itself unless completely repaired? Only asking because every few ignition cycles so far it resets and then a couple of more cycles it comes back at the moment.
Trying to figure out if this could be broken slightly and still be able to do its job without an issue or if it is even slightly broken, it aint going to work at all. But I guess it is got to be working halfway or full otherwise I would not be able to idle or start the car at all if I am not wrong.
Also what's crazy is I could only site this problem on RAM forums with users running the Ecodiesel and not one Jeep forum has a conversation about it unless I missed it. It is apparently rare on the Jeeps!

The electric heating element is just for the cab heater not for the engine.....
It may not even be the gears,it could be a sensor or wiring issue, if I'm in the right area then most likely oily crud causing issues unless a tooth has come off besides the flap only operates when the PCM wants the engine to suck in some soot otherwise the flap is open, you never really know and trying to diagnose online is really just major guesswork, you stab in the dark as often an important bit of info not noticed by the OP is left out, nothing like sticking your head under the bonnet in person............. I found out about engines by just pulling things off to solve problems, I didn't have the money or time to get someone else to try and sort out............ now I have the time, a bit more money and would prefer to give it to someone else ... ideally I keep on top of things before they escalate or maybe I'm just plain RC ...........

Regardless of whether it's CRD or mechanical injection diesel's run full air, it's the amount of fuel injected that alters the given horse power, The butterfly in the intake is purely there to cause vacuum for the egr to draw exhaust gases into the intake

Thats what I said in an earlier post but if the flap is getting stuck then it could be restricting the air intake which is what i suspect is the problem as if a couple of teeth on a cog are missing the flap could close a bit under the air flow .......
