Default Diesel 2.5ltr xj conversion to 4ltr Auto

I have had my XJ turbo diesel with lpg injection for a few years with no trouble except failed NGK glow plugs last week , which were replaced under warranty ....it's been a good 4x4 , except I need to convert to Auto for traveling so my wife can share the driving duties (WON'T Drive manual ) and I need more HP than the current setup.....

Two options---
sell it off....not sure what I would get and throw the funds at petrol 4ltr xj or

keep it and convert saving the hassle of roadworthy , test's and rego but a lot more work....

Has anyone converted from diesel 2.5ltr Turbo to 4ltr ,any help appreciated

I guess aside from engine, gearbox, driveshafts, pedal seesmly, wiring etc, can be done but for the price of a clean petrol XJ, depending on your accessories, I would be more inclined to pick up the cleanest XJ petrol you can and swap all your gear over to it then sell off the Diesel one.

Mudmonster fitted a 4L into his XJ ute that was previously a 2.5 TD. He kept the manual gearbox though. The wiring is a lot different & the computer systems are different. You would want the donor jeep next to your build so you could take all the little things you need. I agree with Jimmyb that you would be much better off getting a good 4L XJ & take your bits off the 2.5 .

I've heard of connecting aw4 to diesel.. Custom flywheel + custom transmission electronics. Was made here in Russia, flywheel was made "for free", author works at some factory and had access to a big lathe and milling machine, thus all mechanical works were made cheap. Transmission ecu was some japaneese custom project.

Unfortunately I can't find links to confirm this.

The author was quite happy, as he expected car dynamics to become worse, but it remained quite the same.

Diesel with LPG gives great performance not enough for what I want and certainly not enough to go to the hassle of converting it to Auto .
I did read the conversion Mudmonster did , couldn't find the reference towards the diesel conversion as I did think about the conversion 4ltr to manual ,I thought maybe Auto would kill two birds with one stone.
I understand it would be easier to buy another Jeep , my only reason to keep mine was to save $ and the hassle of trying to sell it........

Mudmonsters conversion was to fit a 4l in a diesel jeep. He started with a diesel & fitted the petrol to it. one problem you have is that you don't have the auto management computer, nor the petrol engine control computer in your jeep. You don't even have the fuel pump in the tank. I guess you could purchase a written off 4l XJ with the damage to the rear & side. that way you would have what you need. the diff ratios are different & the transfer box will also need changing. basically you will need to strip out yours of electrics, instruments & drive train & fit the 4l stuff.
