Default Aircon always on?

So my aircon seems to be always on whenever the fan is on.. noticed the other day when it was 30 outside and blowing cold with only the fan on. Has anyone else had this problem? The aircon button still toggles on and off but doesnt seem to make a difference.

Mine's a WG, but maybe this info helps.

I was confused for a while at the constant AC condensation puddles that kept forming under mine at all times, even when not using the air con.

Found out the air con runs automatically when on the windscreen setting, even when air con is set to off.

A bit annoying, because I like a constant gentle breeze on the screen, but don't want the air con cycling.

Is yours on the windscreen setting when you notice the cold air?

Same for late model XJ's.

A/C automatically comes on if windscreen setting or combination thereof selected.

If your position knob ie face feet etc is set to auto it will assume you want the temp at what ever you have it set at.
turn that knob to face and set fan speed on anything other than low or high and you should be able to turn in on and off via the switch , but if you have it set on windscreen it will turn a/c on to defrost it quicker. this is very common practice with newer cars.

and when its all in auto mode the a/c will cycle when needed with out the light coming on.

hope this helps. Below i have taken pics out of my book showing the Climate Control operation
