2 years is all I'd expect from a lead acid over West particularly if you get off the tarmac

You have to remember, a 12v lead acid battery is really 6 x 2v cells in series, the power output is basically only as good as the weakest cell.
The easiest way to check the battery, is to put it on a charger for a reasonable amount of time, then connect a load tester across it.
This will put a load on the battery which will show up a weak cell, you can usually pick up a load tester on ebay for about $30. I find you don't use it often, but when you need it, you need it.
The other thing that appears as a stuffed battery, is a stuffed starter motor, you jump in the car click, click FF all.

Having said all that, the Jeep is very sensitive to battery volts at start up, it will throw a load of faults if volts drop too much when starting. As other members have said.

Just handy to have hanging in the shed.

These alternators are only semi-smart. The regulator is still internal and is available as a spare part.

Thanks everybody for the inputs. I double-checked the battery and it is an AC Delco 800CCA lead acid battery 2.5 years old. It has done a few offroad missions to Karijini National Park and Cape Leveque etc. but mostly a lot of highway km in high temperatures that is The Pilbara.

So I ran a code scan yesterday and it came up with 13 DTC's. 5 of these were Battery Voltage Low (Code B210D for DDM, PDM, MSMD, PTS and LSRM), which is not surprising given the battery went completely dead. The rest of the codes are as follows:
  • PCM: P0562 - System Under Voltage
  • WCM: B2254 - Column Lock Module Internal
  • WCM: B2224 - SKREEM Internal
  • WCM: C0077 - Low Tire Pressure
  • HVAC: B1045 - Panel Mode Door 1 Travel Range Too Large
  • ESM: P0607 - Control Module Performance OBD-II
  • FDCM: C140A - TRANSFER CASE MOTOR PERFORMANCE
  • FDCM: C140F -TRANSFER CASE RANGE POSITION SENSOR ERRATIC PERFORMANCE

I cleared the codes and at this stage none have returned.

I will get my battery load tested over the next couple of days, but can anyone shed any light on this issue based on the codes above?

Cheers

nope almost all of those will register due to low voltage as the sensors fail to return a signal due to low original voltage.

Still need to load test the battery and if it's fine start looking at your alternator connections and test the voltage running
