My Jeep GC ( 2013) didn't move when I stopped for fuel. It was towed to the dealer in Noosa QLD. Being a hobbyist I know about cars. I told the dealer that as the shift knob is really limp I suspect the gear shift cable is broken.
They said we will diagnose and it's 160$/hr. Three days later they said it is the temperature sensor in the transmission that is faulty. I was not happy with the diagnosis and expressed this. In response, I was told to take the car elsewhere if I want.
I requested them to please inspect the cable and the mech said I am not sure there is cable (2014 are electric mine is 2013). They came back and said the cable is fine.
I gave go-ahead to fix it. I was quoted 800$ part + 500$ labour + 240$ diagnosis.
One week later they say we were bringing the car in and the gear shift cable broke (how about that
).
Now they want me to pay for the cable and the labor + 240$ for what they misdiagnosed.
What is the right approach here?
1. Suck it up and pay the total bill of 800 including misdiagnosed?
2. Tell them you said the cable is fine so you broke it I don't have to pay (they won't like it)? and only pay for the diagnosis?
3. Something else?
