Default Need help ASAP

Hey guys/girls…

Ok I have a 96 XJ… sport…

Went to swap out front uni joints this morning… purchased K5-13XR as that’s what’s listed for the 96… and low and behold my end caps that come out of my axle shaft are 30mm as opposed the end caps in the K5-13XR are 27mm and the cap to cap dist. Is 82mm

On the ones on mine, 30mm end caps and cap to cap 82mm also. Mine also have C clips on the inside as apposed to the K5-13XR which has clips on the out side.

My shorter shaft is 31mm thick with bunch numbers on it… F5L 20 7 & 43621AN

What uni joints do I have/need ? Did the XJ come with this or has previous owner swapped them out…

Regards Rob

cant help a great deal, other than to say I have read the '96 came with 2 different uni sizes.

You can search this forum, or Google, and probably find the answer

I have an idea the later '96 came with the upgraded unis

alternatively, take careful measurements and ring a supplier, they should be able to supply the correct ones based on that and tell you if they are correct for an XJ

Examples would be Jeep Dealer, nearest Spicer branch.

If you got them on Ebay, that makes things slightly more difficult

I am on a USA based forum as well, as they typically have an answer for you pretty quick

(definitely "search" this forum though, the answer is here somewhere I am pretty sure)

Those are driveshaft 1310 units.
Look on Rockautos menu for the right code.
Not sure if Repco stocks axle ones, always have stock on our shelf from Rock

Thanks guys for each of your reply’s…

I took measurements etc etc, googled which took me to a spicer website which led me to download manuals etc etc hahaha and after that figured out what axle I had whooo no brainier there Dana 30 hahaha.

Ended up having to service the needle bearings as I couldn’t just leave it without cleaning it all up and putting in fresh grease until I find the correct new joints… anyways took it for a quick spin and bingo the vibration in left side has gone at 100kph hehehe.

Jeez been a BIG week for the old girl, much work has been done to her, need to go back to work for a break haha…

Glad you got that (kinda) sorted then, I had a similar vibration in the F/LHS which turned out to be the actual wheel bearing hub assembly, mine was pretty corroded on and was quite challenging to remove, probably the original hub LOL 🤣
