I don't do any serious offroad but sometimes I run into situations where I hesitate if I should take on it or not because I don't have a winch mounted in my Jeep.
For example, in the fishing trip last weekend there was a pretty steep slope down to the lake, through which I would've descended down, but I wasn't sure if I would've be able to climb up again... We ended up leaving the Jeep on top of the hill and hauling all the fishing/camping equipment on foot ~300 meters ...3 times.
I was wondering if a 2500lbs/1100kg hand winch would help climbing the hill? I was thinking: one guy driving in 4-LO, and another cranking the winch anchored to a tree. There are lots of trees alongside the path, so anchoring wouldn't be a problem. Maybe also add a snatch block, for more pulling power...
I'm thinking about
this type of winch – strap type, because I'm kinda scared by cable winches... I know there are also "come-alongs", but they usually have only a few meters of pull and are less convenient/slower to operate.
Here's the hill/path, unfortunately the incline can't really be perceived in it..:
