I'd be lost without my OBD readers...You have to feel for the owners that don't have a mechanical clue when silly things go wrong, and they end up at a Dealer shelling out a fortune for not much at all...

It was the dreaded fuel pump relay failure again. In went a new relay! Deleted those ok but not the airbag warning. So I checked and wiggled the wiring under the drivers seat, presto no more warning light. I have owned and worked on Jeeps for thirty years ,they sure test your b….y resolve and patience!
There is one given ,if you travel into country areas also carry good scan tool and learn how to use it!

Bugga me, and here I was thinking if I could afford a trip to The Great South Land I could maybe bribe a mate from 2 great forums to lend me his wagon, but heck the extra luggage fee for carting my tool box over the ditch I may as well hire some toy car.......... ........ last time over there, we won;t mention the year, hired a little buzz box and scared the crap out of me driving the North Island....... lucky your a cluey fella and it good to see you don;t have hum drum holidays.............. Merry Christmas to you and yours BJ

Its a Jeep thing Drover! And yes carrying around a very good tool kit.!The brother in law wanted to borrow it but I had to say no .Geez getting a call in Aust saying its suspension collapsed ie the Quadralift would be the last straw!A burning ceremony would have to be instigated.Had two XJs went far and wide , one did over 360000 ks never missed a beat! Hate to say it but never even thought about the bs you have to contend with in as these new vehicles of all makes.
Thought I was back in Aust yesterday,a new Ranger with its bonnet up towing a Jayco Silverline ,I didnt stop.Last time I stopped to offer help to a Ranger guy in trouble was going up the hill to Glen Innes ,he basically told me to mind my own business. So I do now!
A number of the biggest Jeep dealers in NZ have dropped the Jeep brand ,or had it taken away and smaller independant operations are now Jeep service agents etc.Bit like whats happening in Aust.

I do the same now with breakdowns ............ I have always been financially pushed to go for the base line models and add any bling myself, have found things also tend be more trouble free especially as more tech gets added, while I liked air suspension in the heavies I drove, the odd breakdown because of air fails was enough to make me steer clear of them in my personal chariot, even though I carried bits and did some fantastic fence wire and zip tie fixes, nah give me steel anyday..... I have borrowed a mates 4x4 once years ago to do a camp run and never again, actually I was so worried about damaging it put a damper on our camp even though my mate was quite happy as he knew I would look after it, fix and he was hoping it would come back better............ It did as I fixed a dodgy door winder.

I honestly don't know much about Dealers of any maker as last time I used one was in 1982 before that was 1975, used once then walked out the door, oh I did take the Jeeperific in for the crank recall thingy, lousy coffee....

These issues can arise with any newish car. Read up on any forum and you will find many issues with Toyota's and the Nissans, not just our Jeeps. The support and willingness for the average grease monkey to have a crack at fixing a Jeep is the problem. My mate had an issue with his timing belt on his Troopy out the back of nowhere and was able to have it fixed by the local bloke, I dare say that wouldn't happen with the Jeep. It just seems that Jeeps have a bad rep here. My mate reckons in the states every second car is a Jeep.

About 7 years ago there were full function DRB2 readers (Chinese knockoff) for about $100 on ebay. They soon stopped as there were copyright issues. I am still kicking myself I didnt get one.
