Default XJ Airbox modification?

hi guys well i was under the jeep and it really only just hit me how small the airinlet hole is on the jeep airbox. also there isnt very many places the air can come up or be directed into the box from. so my question is, can you cut a bigger hole without it affecting your tuning or anything?

i mean it prolly doesnt matter with my tuning as im getting 10/100 or just under on LPG but the temp quage does fluctuate a fair bit going from 60-100 on a simple drive into and back from town. so i thought maybe more aifflow would help?

any help would be great thanks.

The surface area of the hole in the front of the airbox still exceeds the size of the intake hose so there will be no gain. Just more places that you can get water in to kill your engine!

Hi GoJeep, i run a 85mm intake tube and not the stock size, it only resizes back down at the start of the airbox and were it goes into the throttle body. all in between is 85mm. also i run a stock airfilter and also a UNI filter under that again so in the area of the intake hole. this is really oily which catches the dirt and the paper filter does all the rest.

thanks for the suggestion of water tho i didnt think of that cos how would water get in that area to begin with unless it blows in with the wind. i plan later to remove the airbox and run a pod filter yet it seems all my setup on fuel and stuff works great cos im getting a extreemly good fuel economy and it is running rich not lean.

thanks for your help.

Have you seen the setup I run with the Cyclone one? Way better than anything else out there I tell you.

i run a CyClone of a home made job in my jeep and it seems to run great. i do get 10 or just better than it cos i got 630km out of 85L after running this set up and with the cyclone in the line.

i run extractors also which i found out a while ago and a huge exhast tip which makes the car rumble and sound like a ricer hehe (need to take a vid) i sound like NO other jeep in car yards or people i know so its good to be different.

i also made a Cyclone for my dads SWB maverick and t went from 20L/100 back to 17 so i think my designs work.
