Default Defroster vent issue

G'day guys,

I am new to the forum having acquired my first jeep 2 weeks ago, a 2006 Golden Eagle.

I have an issue regarding my front windscreen defroster. I have searched the forum and Google, but all the topics I have found relate to the defroster being stuck on and nothing else working.

This is not the issue I am having. All of my vents are functioning correctly. When I move the switch all the actuators function. The heater and Aircon works fine. But no matter what position I move my selector to (and again all positions function correctly), I always have air coming from the defroster vent.

I live in the tropics, so when I run the Aircon, the cold air blows on the windscreen and it fogs up externally which is not ideal.

Can anyone please offer some insight into what the issue might be?

Vacuum leak. This from another Forum -

The fix is most likely a vacuum leak (very common) or stuck blend door. Check out these threads.

How to fix heat / AC / air not blowing through center vents

Thanks for the reply, I had already read those threads.

My issue is not that air won't come out of vents. It's that it never stops coming out of the defroster vent. Air correctly blows from all vents that I select with the switch, but also the defroster.

I understand that this is a safety feature in case of vacuum failure. So even if all other vent positions function correctly, it is possible for there to be a leak which causes the defroster to be always open?

I had some of the insulation material break down and come out through the vents. Some got stuck for a while and did cause some issues with the vent operation. I have only recently moved back to Victoria from Darwin and it was while I was living up there I had the issue. Those of us the have lived or spent a lot of time up north would have seen all things rubber and foam destroyed by the environment.
