Where exactly are you fixing the wire for external antenna? I have the unit out and not getting anywhere.

I had the same problem with my 2000 also -sold it tho.....

looking at the circuit board photos I cant see any RF circuits, to do
it properly you need to find the chip/module`s antenna input -might not have one tho -and solder a small cap and put an antenna on it from memory my 2000 model was on 315mhz

14224/315mhz
/2
= 22.5cm long for 1/4 wave at that freq

could get one from a wrecker and rip it apart and find the chip

I would think the data port is not the right spot-its just coupling accidentally

If someone can get a unit I can sort it for you -if your in vic

Would have been a big big help, but I am in Auckland (NZ). And finding one from a wrecker is next to impossible.

I can take much clearer photos of the circuit boards, but from the bottom only. Casing is fixed with melted platic holders.

No I can't without compromising the casing. I'll do them in the morning tomorrow (its about 11pm now here). Thanks for your help in advance.

Okay, here are the links to photos. I am not attaching them here because I have not reduced their size to give you clarity over the circuit board:
