How do you stop the rain water from going too far past the filter? I mean there is no hat at the top and it does rain a lot in Auckland (thinking about the design - its beautiful).

Kiwi. When you look at most snorkles by design the "hat" face forward. So when your driving in the rain water willgointo the snorkle. Although this face backwards there is a u shaped bend at the bottom of the inlet tube. At a guess I reckon most water will evapourate by the time it has a chance to collect enough to work its way into the airbox, past the filter and up and through the box into the throttle body.

I do understand that, and I do like the shape and feel of what you guys have done a lot. Its just that those hats normally have space on the side walls for water that hits it to fall down the outside wall of the "main pipe". It rains a lot in Auckland and sometimes its very hardcore downpour. I guess building a low point in the pipeworks with a system to dispense that water collected would be nice. I'll keep exploring. I don't like the generic designs of snorks available in the market for TJs.

the scoop/hat that you speak of is available and works well with the drain flutes around it's body.... I offer the customer options according to their preferences and experience with the climate/conditions they operate in...dirty side of intake HAS a drain , and will easily hold a few litres of water with engine still operating...these features along with design and quality are not offered with off-the shelf snorkels....additionaly...filter element can be treated with an anti-fungal agent to combat moisture reaching filter element...std filter is only $10 and is usually thrown out after a comp weekend

cos i go hard GM.... no pod will stand up to my driving. i need a water tight air box with a 1 foot snorkel. seeing tomahawks work i thought he would be able to make me one.
