Just our silly aussie marketing laws. Most other countries allow duplicate use of a name.

Australia is the only country that the Subaru liberty is not a legacy, that is because honda had the legacy, years ago Holden had a forward control van called the shuttle and a few years after it was no longer available there was a court case because one of the Jap importers had a shuttle i think it was honda.

Basically they were trying to stop popularity of a manufacturer being cashed in by another manufacturer having a similar name.

Why - who would get a Subaru liberty mixed up with a Jeep liberty? Cherokee is a better name anyway.

Hahaha, had a good laugh...

Thanks for your support, folks. I know the habitants of Oz are a different breed so I felt if they too sing in this patriotic hymn maybe I'd be the foolish one.
But you gave me back the faith that there's something beyond the Star and Stripes banner.
And you were right with comments on Land Rovers- Those have now "ECUs" on their diesels. Makes 'em run better with only 3 liters/100 more consumption and less reliability. For Toyota... they still have only a 2 year warranty on their 4x4s here while Kia now offers 7 years. Maybe the wanna tell us something... But that will be another nice treat for later.
Thumbs up mates
