Default Low Battery Voltage Warning

Anyone had this? I have an intermittent problem with a low battery voltage warning on the display. The GJC has had an alternator and battery in the last 6 months but months after the alternator was done this warning started appearing now and then.

The frequency of the warning coming up has increased. The charging system checks out fine, the battery voltage is ok and even when the warning is displayed the alternator is charging.

A search of US sites suggests the "Intelligent Battery Sensor", sometimes called the battery temperature sensor. This lives in the negative terminal on the battery and sends signals to the management computers.

Chatted to an auto electrician who thought this unlikely to be the issue and talked about non genuine alternators causing problems. I would have thought this would have meant issues just after the alternator was swapped.

My current approach is more or less to try and ignore the warning. It usually doesn't stay on for long and the battery charge seems to be holding out ok. I may investigate the diode packs available to push the charge rate up to support dual batteries. It looks like they replace the sensor and are a fraction of the price.

Anyone got any thoughts please.

Cheers

Jim

Hi,
Have you checked the battery connections under the seat since battery replacement?

I found by accident that the earth terminal connection was loose after my towbar had been fitted. It was less than finger tight...

As per @67HR, first port of call is always all connections...........

As for changing diode pack for charging dual batteries, if you have an aux battery for fridge etc then charge it using a DC/DC charger then your aux will get a decent charge and you won't upset the Jeep brain.

What sort of driving do you do? How often do you drive? When I first had the warning the dealer told me I needed to take the car on a long drive at least once a week. As the battery has got older I can almost predict when I will get the warning. Short drives or not driving for a week or more will bring up the warning. I now make sure it has a good long drive regularly and/or put it on a battery charger once a month.

Here is a thread from when I first had the issue....

HERE

I've learned to live with it, but as the battery is getting older it is becoming more frequent, or more to the point sooner. I used to be able to leave the car for over a week before I got the message, now I get it after 4-5 days.

Just tells me that the battery may need replacing soon.

Also, only use an AGM specific charger and never use the rejuvenation setting.

Thanks, I suspect I too will just be living with it although, as discussed, mine is slightly different as even with the battery on a minder I can get the warning first drive (and with a new battery)

An Auto Electrician I spoke to thought it may relate to an incompatibility with a none genuine alternator but given how many WK2s have had an alternator I think we'd be hearing of more cases.

Cheers

Other than checking for firm/clean connections on the battery I would be checking the connections at the jumper terminals and the high load connectors on the fuse boxes. Also something no one has brought up and thats checking that the vehicle has actually shut down things that work on ACC mode, radio, GPS, blutooth etc or anything plugged in, I have read where there have been instances the ACC mode isn't shutting down, after shut down check your phone that the bluetooth for the vehicle has gone, if not then you may have something munching on power when it should be asleep.

Having head lights and things on auto will cause a massive drain on start up even if just on then off, especially if just a run around the block and the charge doesn't get a chance to get back.
