Default 96 XJ engine rebuild

Hi.
looking for a bit of advice. I have a 1996 xj and the engine has done 300k.
It blows smoke, uses oil has lots of leaks and is pretty much stuffed. I have
to decide do i rebuild this engine or just buy a second hand engine. I have worked on bike engines but never a big engine like this. How hard is to rebuild these engines, are there any second hand engines for sale near me, i am in bundaberg. I can get a engine (117k) from harvey bay but it is $1150 but has 12 months warranty.
any advice is appreciated
cheers
dave

$1150? You can get a whole jeep with working motor for less than that, just saying. I faced the same dilemma a while ago and picked up a lower k motor for $300 bucks.

XJ's are a dime a dozen. But if you want to build an engine I have brand new set of high quality pistons and rings in the FS section.

Regards A

Default There good Motors

you maybe surprised, I have striped down many and even with 450Ks on them and the bores and crank have stuff all wear.
New hone, rings, bearings and a seal kit and you could be good to go.
Now the early 285 blocks are a very different story.
Cheers tezza
