Competition + Insurance = ??

Whats the deal with driving in comps and insurance. I've noticed that entry fee includes "insurance" but what does that cover?........... People? vehicles? Both?

Do you need specifc insurance?

Also on another note. Do you need any special licences? cams etc

I'm pretty sure the insurance that the event includes is just public liability. So just people not cars.
Also all insurance companies that i know of will not insure your vehicle if you compete in a timed event.

Up here most of the comps also require you to provide a 'Cover Note' for each comp from your insurance provider prior to allowing you to race (non-timed only), from what little I know about it some insurance companies also request a few extra $$$ to provide cover notes for events (some not all).

You may find most events require you to have a 'Rally Extension Letter' from your current CTP - Provider. Don't get confused with this, not your comprehensive insurance your compulsary third party, which will be on your vehicles registration papers.

This letter simply states that your vehicle is competing in an 'event' from 'start date' to 'finish date'. You will need to supply the your insurer with the

name of the event
the dates of when the registered vehicle is competing
the rego number of the vehicle

By supplying this letter to the event, you are simply saying that you have a CURRENT CTP CERTIFICATE (compulsary third party insurance). This is only going to cover injuries to other ppl, their property and depending on your CTP insurer the driver.

Some insurance companies charge and some insurance companies don't.

Simply you need to have this letter to compete.
