Default blown gasket?

xj 97 4l

Hiy'all

driving today and then smoke everywhere, after overtaking. smelt like burning oil. Drove home anyway about 20k out.

When looking underneath there is dripping oil from the engine next to right front wheel.

radiator was ok, heat of engine was ok, noise of engine was normal, acceleration and all was ok, just pouring oil and a lot of smoke

what do you thinkit might be? think its really serious?

cheers, rocksinboots

oil prolly coming from oil filter area or the tapit cover gasket. from from there it blows back onto the hot exhaust pipe and you get the smoke.

Is it engine oil or ATF? You may have split a tranny oil cooler pipe. If the car is not making any extra noises then it is not serious but don't drive it any further until you find and fix it. May even be a power steering pipe.

If its a blown head gasket you would usually have one or all of symptoms

bubbles in radiator with engine running
trace of cream inside oil filler cap
milky oil
rough idle

external oil leak usually something else.

degrease and powerclean engine makes finding easy

This seems to fit the bill of description, but can not know until tomorrow when I get to look without distractions.
