Aux fuel tank and the battery tray was built in the workshop of Northern 4wd at Wangara, They had a local tank fabricator come in to build the tank but did all the work on the battery tray in house.
Remember, though, I did have a 25mm body lift to get the extra room for the batteries so they could fit with the lowest point level with the factory lowest point of the fuel tank. and I cut out the rear storage compartment and chucked the rear muffler for the fuel tank.
On the Fuel tank--wallaby on these forums says he does not think you need aux fuel tanks, he carries two 20ltr jerries. Our main and aux totals 130ltrs and it gives us over 1000klm range allowing us to save a small fortune by only filling up in the bigger towns such as a recent trip Perth, Norseman, Border village, Port Augusta, Melbourne.
the most we paid was $1.22 / ltr and we passed places like Nullabour station at $1.65 / ltr.
We like to know we have enough fuel to get where we are going and back as in a recent trip (Gold Prospecting) to Laverton WA (380 odd ks from Kalgoolie) when we got there there was no diesel available on the two days we went into town form our remote camping spot in the gold fields. The round trip Kal to Laverton (plus some off road searching out the gold) and back to Kal was 950klms far more than the standard tank and two 20ltr jerries can get you.
I guess its whether you want to tour to really remote places and stay safe and self sufficent or not. We also have a 40 ltr water tank built into the Jeep appart from the two 60 ltr tanks in the camper. WE carry two 10 ltr water jerries we refill from streams and any reasonable water we find for our showers and there is another two 20ltr jerries in lockers in the camper for either water or diesel.
Its all just because I promised the missus we would be safe and reasonably comfortable out there.
PS we had a porta potie built into the camper for those midnight visits to the loo.
Steve.
