AFAIK they were all petrol cars.

So you put diesel in a petrol? No biggie, drain as much as you can and fill with fresh petrol. It will smoke for a while and clean the carbon buildup out of the engine but that's about it.

As SeaComms said, if it's diesel in a petrol vehicle then it's not such a great problem. Dropping the tank out of a TJ isn't real hard, you can do it easily in your driveway.
Drain it as much as possible, re-fill with premium or normal unleaded but stay away from E10 until the newly filled tank is empty.
