Default Jeep Spare Parts Prices

I have had a few horror experiences with parts for my ZJ, including the $1700 fuel pump replacement caused by Scuderia Veloce's failure to replace the fuel filter on any service since the car was new (at 93,000 kms with a full service history it isn't too much to ask that fuel filters be replaced).

but the most ludicrous one yet was a few months ago when I finally decided to do something about my non-working cargo cover. It didn't retract properly. I checked the price on some US websites and the cargo cover for a ZJ costs US$85 so I was expecting to be slugged a few hundred at least. I went to that evil parts place in Rosehill and nearly fell over laughing when the guy quoted me $1050!!!!

What possible justification could they have for such a ludicrous price? I think it's simple profiteering. Even with the worst exchange rate and air-freight it couldn't possibly be that much.

Is there some way to get decent parts prices in Australia without shipping them myself? (my brother lives in Hawaii so the 'shipping them myself option isn't out of the question)

Dewd,
Not too sure, but I'm bringing a suitcase full of stuff back with me from the States in July and I get my folks to drive down the road to their Jeep dealer in North Carolina to get me stuff now. Parts in Hawaii are going to be a little more expensive than the Mainland but it's still cheaper than the 400% markup that seems to be prevelant here.
Have you tried any of the Jeep parts places elsewhere than the stealership? There is Poly 4x4 in Victoria (03) 9562 7779
Mascot Motors in NSW (02) 4421 8111
and there is Jeepart Recyclers in Queensland 1 800 46 5337
Give any of them a try...

Djorkboy,

Welcome to the worst part about having a Jeep. There are many places in Oz to get a good price on parts. There is a link to some supplies, I will find for you.

djorkboy - I think I have a retracting cover in the shed somewhere. It's tan so the colour may not suit. Otherwise - make a decent offer and I'll ship it up.

Last fuel pump I purchased was$280 and I fitted it myself.....Both the TJ and the ZJ now have new pumps in them. The $1700.05 comes in because they lift out the complete "canister" and replace the whole thing - rather than replace just the pump. Unless the pump has run dry, it's quite possible the unit is OK with a new filter. Need to get them pressure tested....
